Iguza Falls, Foz do Iguacu

Water fall-Nature/National park

At the point where Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina meet, the Iguaçu river drops spectacularly in a semicircle of 247 waterfalls that thunder down into the gorge below. This total of 275 waterfalls form the largest chain of waterfalls around the globe. To minimize damage to the National Park's environment, you'll board a colorful bus to access the park and view the falls. An elevator allows you to descend to the lower falls where the water meets the pools. Walkways extend out over the falls to viewing platforms overlooking Devil's Throat, with picturesque panoramas all the way to Argentina on a clear day. As you climb a little bit closer to the falls, you'll feel the mist cooling your skin and see butterflies fluttering around the colorful rainbow illusions created by falling water.

  • This is an amazing natural place, the views from both sides (Argentina and Brazil) are amazing. For Brazilian side you can take around 4 or 5 hours and enjoy everything, from Argentina side I would recommend a full day and comfortable clothes for the tour. - Anonymous

  • Awesome view not only at the top but also on the train ride up and down. I recommend going on the earliest departure because it gets crowded fast.-- Anonymous
  • Awesome experience to be there. Can be detailed as man made God (marvel). Not to be missed, marvellous place in Rio. View of Rio and sugar loaf mountain from the mountain top is wonderful.-- Anonymous
  • Statue is also visible from the coastline of Niteroi, from where you can see Sugar loaf mountain too. View after sunset is also wonderful, when the statue can be seen graced with white light. Amazing!!- Anonymous

With arms outstretched 28 meters, as if to encompass all of humanity, the colossal Art Deco statue of Christ, called Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer), gazes out over Rio de Janeiro and the bay from the summit of Corcovado. The eight-meter base encloses a chapel that is popular for weddings. Although this is one of Brazil's most readily recognized icons, it is often mistakenly called The Christ of the Andes, confused with the older statue marking the boundary between Argentina and Chile.

A mid-point stop on the railway leads to trails through the Tijuca National Park, a huge forest that protects springs, waterfalls, and a wide variety of tropical birds, butterflies, and plants. Several more viewpoints open out within the park.

Ipanema, Rio de Janerio

Beaches/nightlife

This world-famous beach gives foreign visitors a sense of life in Rio, displaying a cross-section of different lifestyles, chic boutiques and eateries and luxurious apartment buildings. The neighbourhood Ipanema is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste. With more locals and fewer tourists, these beaches are favorites for families. Sunday is especially busy, with an antiques market at Praça de Quentaland and the Feira de Artesanato de Ipanema, alive with music, art, handcrafts, and street food. The waves at Ipanema and Leblon can be very strong and unpredictable, so be careful where you swim. Follow the locals and stay out of the water where you don't see others swimming.
